You brought government into your marriage and then are asking them to use only your definition of things to award clear benefits. Then people wanted to deprive others those government benefits based around their original religious beliefs of marriage. We wanted the governments to track this and award default rights involving inheritance, insurance, traveling together and very human things far away from a spiritual union under in their gods eyes. Then people on the right and left sought out benefits from that govenrment for that marriage. Happy to even pay a tax for the right for that government to acknowledge that marriage. The government then wanted a new way to tax people, and for some reason, people really went for that and sought out the government's approval and licensing. Their god, family, and direct christian community being the only ones who need to acknowledge this union.
In the Christian faith, marriage is an act between a man and a woman where the acknowledge through their community and beliefs that they are one before their god. The 'Marriage' discussion in America leaves me disgusted with conservatives, liberals, government, and organized religion.
